Mitali Choudhury

Mitali Chaudhury was born on 10th January, 1960 at Ranibari, Panbazar, Guwahati, Assam. Mitali Choudhury was one of the sweetest, melodious and one of the most talented and versatile singer of the Assamese musical world. Apart from modern songs she had ventured into the realm of folk and classical music. Since her very childhood was devoted to music. She sang her first song with singer Khagen Mahanta at the age of 11. Mitali Choudhury has playbacked for more than twenty five Assamese films that includes Anutap, Moinajan, Rajanigandha, Sri Sri Maa Kamakhya, Priyajon, Joubane Amoni Kare, Bukur Majat Jale, Tumi Mor Matho Mor, Bisphoran, Bandhan, Ai Morom Tumar Babe, Gun Gun Gane Gane, Saru Bowari, Ami Asomiya etc. Besides Assamese songs, Choudhury could sing Hindi songs to perfection. She sang for popular Hindi serials like Ramayana, Akbar The Great and Sri Krishna. She spent most of her time in Mumbai since 1978 and sang for several Hindi television serials and films. She was a high grade singer of the All India Radio and many of her unforgettable melodies are recorded in the studios of the All India Radio centre at Guwahati. Besides singing in Hindi and Assamese Mitali has sung in manyregional languages such as Bengali, Oriya, Marathi, Gujrati, Rajasthani, Bhojpuri, Punjabi etc.

She received the Jyotirupa Cine Award for Best female playback singer for her memorable song Jowbonor baa lagi kopi uthe mon of Assamese film Gun gun gane gane. Some popular and hit songs of her for Assamese audio and video albums such as Burha Luitor Bishal Bahut, Aru Nushudhiba Mok, Jumi Jumi Jumi Jumi, Agali Bahore Gagana Bajai, Mor Priya Priya Mor, Ban Bananir Achal Uruai etc. Mitali Choudhury expired on the 26th of March 2011 at 12:45 am in Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
